Planning for the Unexpected

Life happens.

Eligible employees automatically receive substantial basic life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage that is fully paid for by Confluent. This benefit helps financially protect you and your family in the event of a death or a disabling accident. If you’d like additional life and AD&D coverage beyond what’s offered by Confluent, you have the option to purchase Voluntary life and AD&D insurance. The cost will be deducted from your paycheck.

Basic Life and AD&D

Coverage is fully paid by Confluent, and provides you with two types of insurance protection:

  • Basic life insurance coverage for you equaling two times your annual target earnings, up to a maximum of $700,000. Your designated beneficiaries will receive a lump-sum payment if you die while employed by Confluent.
  • AD&D insurance for you equal to two times your annual target earnings, up to a maximum of $700,000. It pays a benefit in addition to your life insurance if you die as the result of a covered accident. It also pays benefits for loss of limb, hearing, speech, sight, and other serious losses resulting from an accident while employed by Confluent.

Voluntary Life and AD&D

In addition to the coverage Confluent provides, you are able to purchase expanded Life and AD&D coverage for yourself and your dependents.

Coverage for Yourself

  • Purchase in $10,000 increments up to $1,000,000.
  • You will need to provide proof of good health on any amount above $350,000 (this amount only applies to new hires).
  • In the case of a qualified life event, you can elect to increase or start coverage, but the entire amount would be subject to a statement of good health before approval.
  • Additional employee AD&D is also available in these increments. No proof of good health required for AD&D.

Coverage for Your Family

If you enroll yourself in voluntary life or AD&D coverage, you’ll have the option to enroll your partner and children in coverage as well.

For your partner or spouse:

  • Purchase in $5,000 increments up to $500,000 (other limits may apply).
  • Your partner will need to provide proof of good health on any amount above $50,000 (this amount only applies to new hires).
  • In the case of a qualified life event, you can elect to increase or start coverage, but the entire amount would be subject to a statement of good health before approval.

For your children:

  • Purchase in increments of $2,000 up to $10,000.

If you become temporarily disabled and are unable to work for an extended period because of illness or injury, Confluent provides you with short-term disability (STD) income coverage. Confluent pays the total cost of this benefit—you pay no premium cost.

Quick Facts

  • For the first 8 weeks following the start of an injury, illness, or pregnancy disability, Confluent’s short-term disability benefit will cover 100% of your base salary.
  • Starting on the 9th week of disability, the benefits will be 67% of base salary up to a maximum weekly benefit of $3,500. Benefits are paid through the 90th day of disability.
  • Your STD coverage amount is based on a percentage of your weekly base salary in effect just prior to your disability date.
  • If you are still disabled and unable to work after 90 days, you may be eligible for Confluent’s long-term disability (LTD)
  • Your STD plan benefits are offset by other benefits you receive, such as state disability.
  • While STD is provided by Confluent at no cost to you, please keep in mind that any benefits you receive are taxable to you.

If you’re still disabled beyond 90 days and unable to work when your short-term disability (STD) benefit ends, Confluent also provides a long-term disability (LTD) benefit, which continues to help replace a portion of your income if you become totally disabled as a result of sickness or injury. Confluent pays the total cost of this benefit—you pay no premium cost.

Quick Facts

  • When your short-term disability (STD) benefit ends and you’re still disabled, LTD benefits may replace up to 60% of your monthly target earnings for the length of your qualified disability, up to a maximum benefit of $20,000 per month.
  • The LTD benefit is offset by other benefits received, such as state disability.
  • LTD benefits are tax free. While Confluent pays the premiums for this plan, those premiums are reported as taxable income on your individual W-2. This way there are more take-home dollars available at claim time when you need it most.
